Weighted Blankets and ADHD
Many families and adults with ADHD look for a weighted blanket for its gentle, enveloping feeling of pressure, at bedtime or during a quiet moment. We do not promise any effect: a weighted blanket is a comfort product, and everyone experiences it differently. This selection brings together the models and accessories most often chosen for these uses, along with the weight and safety rules to follow.
What people look for, and what we don’t promise
The principle people look for is called deep pressure stimulation: weight spread over the body, which some people find reassuring. It is a sensation, not a promised result. A weighted blanket does not replace support or professional advice, and it does not suit everyone. The 30-night trial lets you see whether you like it.
Which model for which use?
- Sensory: all-in-one in cotton, with no zip and no slipping cover. From 4 to 12 kg, from $159.90. The choice for people who move a lot or react to small noises.
- Cotton: removable 100% cotton cover, washable at 40 °C, from 3 to 11 kg. Practical when the blanket also goes on the sofa.
- Summer: double-sided cotton with no cover, for people who get warm quickly.
- Weighted neck wrap and weighted lap pad: localised weight on the shoulders or knees, while reading or working at a desk.
For a child: strict rules
- Never under 3 years old or under 15 kg.
- The child must be able to take the blanket off on their own; an adult checks the weight.
- About 10% of body weight: 3 kg for a child weighing 30 to 39 kg, 4 kg from 40 to 49 kg. Between two weights, the lighter one.
- Between 15 and 29 kg, no weighted blanket without the advice of a healthcare professional.
The Kids blanket comes in 3 to 7 kg, in 90 × 120, 100 × 150 and 110 × 170 cm. The kids’ weighted vest, from 1.5 to 4 kg depending on the size, is worn over clothes, with a professional’s approval. More details in our article age, weight and safety.
Choosing the right weight
For adults and children alike, the 10% rule applies, and the lighter weight wins if in doubt. If the weight doesn’t suit, we arrange an exchange for another weight. Our weight guide gives the full chart. If sensory needs come first, see also our autism selection.
Comfort product, not a medical device. If in doubt, or for a child, ask a healthcare professional for advice.
