Description

Some children seek out pressure to settle down, focus on a calm activity or get through a transition during the day. The weighted vest for kids meets this need simply: it is worn over clothes and spreads a moderate weight across the shoulders and chest, like a hand resting on the upper body. Many families look for one to support specific sensory needs, including for children with ADHD or autism. Every child responds in their own way: it is the adult who observes what works for them.

The vest comes in four sizes, from S to XL, each with its own weight, from 1.5 to 4 kg. The price is the same for every size: $54.90.

Design and materials

The weight is spread across several compartments over the shoulders and chest. This construction limits how much the weight shifts when the child moves, sits down or leans over, and keeps the pressure on the upper body even.

The fabric is a durable polyester, made for regular use and comfortable to wear over a T-shirt or sweater. The vest is black, discreet with any outfit. It arrives in compact packaging measuring 22 x 20 x 7 cm.

Which weight should you choose?

For this vest, the weight depends on the size. First choose the size based on the child’s height (as specified by the manufacturer), then check that the vest’s weight does not exceed about 10% of the child’s body weight. If you’re torn between two sizes, choose the lighter one.

Size Vest weight Child’s height Length from collar to hem Child’s minimum weight
S 1.5 kg 116 to 128 cm 40 cm 15 kg
M 2.5 kg 134 to 146 cm 44 cm 25 kg
L 3 kg 146 to 158 cm 48 cm 30 kg
XL 4 kg 158 to 170 cm 49 to 50 cm 40 kg

The vest should stay comfortable to wear and let the child move freely. If it seems too heavy, tight or uncomfortable, take it off and go back to a lighter size.

Safety guidelines for children

  • Never for a child under 3 years old or under 15 kg, and never for a baby.
  • The child must be able to take the vest off on their own, at any time.
  • An adult checks that the vest’s weight suits the child before first use.
  • The vest is worn for short periods, with adult supervision, and never for sleeping.

Care

Follow the care instructions on the vest’s label. Before each use, an adult checks the seams and compartments to make sure the weight stays in place. Store the vest flat, in a dry place, out of reach of the youngest members of the household.

Weighted vest or kids’ weighted blanket?

The vest is for times when the child is sitting or standing: reading, homework, calm activities. For rest time, the Kids weighted blanket comes in three sizes and from 3 to 7 kg, with the same safety guidelines. For pressure on the lap during a story, the 1 kg weighted lap pad can also be a good fit, always under an adult’s watchful eye.
