About Tyngda

Useful information to choose and enjoy your Tyngda blanket.

Red wooden house on the shore of a Swedish lake

Tyngda makes weighted blankets and weighted accessories designed with one goal in mind: helping you find a feeling of weight that suits you, without overblown promises and without fuss. The right weight to let go.

Why the name

In Swedish, tyngd means “weight”, and a weighted blanket is called a tyngdtäcke: literally a “weight blanket”. It first appeared in the United States in the 1990s, among occupational therapists, then found its way into Swedish and Scandinavian bedrooms long before it became widely known elsewhere. That is where Tyngda comes from. We chose the name as a nod to that connection and to the spirit that goes with it: simple, understated things made to last, in a calm and light-filled home.

That Nordic spirit shapes the way we work. No folklore, no grand claims: pleasant materials, clear explanations and honest advice.

Our approach

One page per model

Each blanket has its own product page, where you choose the weight, size and color directly. That way you compare real models, with their genuine differences in fabric, season and care, rather than scrolling through a long list of near-identical listings. For an overview, see our weighted blanket comparison or browse the full collection.

Clear guides

Choosing a weighted blanket always raises the same questions: which weight, which size, which season, how to wash it. We answer them in short, precise guides: the weight guide, the size guide and the care guide. Answers to the most common questions are gathered in our FAQ.

Honesty first

A weighted blanket is a comfort product, not a medical device. Many people look for one because of the gentle, enveloping pressure it provides, or to create a soothing bedtime ritual. Experiences vary from person to person, and we would rather say so plainly.

Our weight advice is deliberately cautious: around 10% of your body weight and, if you are torn between two weights, the lighter one. For children, we stick to strict rules: never under 3 years old or under 15 kg, the child must be able to remove the blanket on their own, and an adult should check the weight. If in doubt, or for a child, ask a healthcare professional for advice.

Carefully chosen materials

Our blankets are made in Europe. The fabrics of our weighted blankets and covers are OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 certified. Depending on the model, you will find cotton, linen, velvet or a plush side, with glass microbeads spread across stitched pockets or, for the Premium model, stainless steel beads secured inside the insert.

Buy with peace of mind

Finding the right weight can take a little time. That is why we offer a few simple guarantees:
